Seller Terms & Listing Rules
Last updated 25 September 2026
These Seller Terms apply when you list or sell books on Taled. They sit alongside the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, our Prohibited and Restricted Listings policy, and our Community Guidelines.
Taled is a marketplace intermediary. You (the seller) contract with the buyer for the book. Taled provides listing tools, messaging, search, and payment processing through Stripe (Stripe Connect). Taled is not the seller of record, not your agent for the sale, and does not retail, warehouse, authenticate, or inspect your listed books.
You accept these Seller Terms through the short checkbox the first time you list (or when you turn on selling). That acceptance is standing, so you don’t re-read the full terms every time you list.
1. Who can sell
•
You must meet the age and account rules in the Terms of Use (you must be at least 16).
•
You must have the right to sell each book (you own it or are authorised to sell it; it is not stolen).
•
You must comply with Australian law, including any ACL duties that apply if you sell in trade or commerce.
Private sellers vs business sellers (plain English)
•
Private / one-off sellers: clearing a home shelf now and then. You must still describe books honestly and not mislead.
•
Business / trade sellers: selling regularly in a commercial way (bookshop, online book business, high volume as a business). If you sell in trade or commerce, Australian Consumer Law consumer guarantees may apply to your sales to consumers (for example acceptable quality, match to description). You are responsible for understanding and meeting those duties.
Taled may ask you to flag “selling as a business.” Whether or not you do, the law looks at substance, not labels alone.
2. Listing quality: condition, photos, accuracy
Listing should stay fast (ISBN scan is supported). Honesty is what matters.
You must:
•
only list physical books that are in your possession and available to ship to the buyer (no drop-shipping, no “order it later from somewhere else,” no pre-orders);
•
describe the actual copy you will post: title, ISBN/edition where known (do not knowingly use the wrong ISBN), format (paperback/hardcover), and condition;
•
use Taled’s guided condition grades in good faith;
•
upload real-copy photos of the book you are selling (not a stock image of a different copy when photos are presented as the item); where practical, include more than one angle and any pages or cover areas that show wear;
•
follow defect photo prompts where the book has wear, damage, annotations, missing dust jacket, water damage, odour, or other defects a buyer would care about;
•
set price and postage clearly, including whether you offer combined postage for multiple books;
•
keep availability up to date (mark sold or remove if no longer available).
You must not:
•
hide major defects;
•
use misleading grades;
•
list prohibited items (including ebooks or digital files; physical books only);
•
invent scarcity or fake urgency in a deceptive way;
•
list books you do not have on hand to post.
Accurate condition and real photos are the main basis for resolving “significantly not as described” (SNAD) disputes. See Buyer Protection and Refunds.
Series, sets, and soft overlaps
Taled may show soft alerts (for example series or set overlap hints). Those alerts are informational. You are not required to unlist because of a soft overlap, and we won’t remove a listing automatically because of one. You should still avoid knowingly misleading listings (for example selling the wrong volume).
3. Postage and combined shipping
•
You set postage amounts and methods for posting within Australia.
•
You ship to the buyer’s delivery address on the order (or another address you both clearly agree in chat).
•
Ship promptly: post within the timeframe shown on the listing, or if none is shown, within about 3 business days of the order. If you will be late, message the buyer in-app with a revised expectation.
•
Pack books so they arrive in the condition you described (cardboard, wrap, or equivalent protection for hardcovers and fragile copies). Avoid packaging that introduces strong scents if you can.
•
Prefer tracked postage for higher-value books; share tracking or proof of postage with the buyer when you have it.
•
Combined shipping is allowed and encouraged where you offer it. If you offer combined rates, apply them fairly and describe how they work.
•
You are responsible for accurate shipping details and status updates.
•
Title and risk: see the Terms of Use. Taled is not the carrier. If a parcel is lost after you can show it was posted or accepted by the carrier, work with the buyer (and carrier where relevant). If you cannot show it was posted, expect the buyer to be refunded under Buyer Protection.
4. Orders, payouts, and fees
Payments and payouts (no standing escrow):
•
Payments are processed by Stripe through Stripe Connect. To receive payouts you must set up payouts with Stripe and accept Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement. Stripe will ask for identity and bank details.
•
You are paid on ship/confirm: once you ship the order or complete the confirm step shown in the app, your payout is released through Stripe. Stripe then pays your bank on its payout schedule. We don’t hold funds in a standing escrow.
•
Your payout for an order is the book price, less the seller fee, plus the postage the buyer paid.
•
Limited holds may apply for fraud, risk, or an open dispute where Stripe’s rules allow.
Refunds on upheld claims:
•
If a book isn’t sent, is significantly not as described, or we otherwise uphold a buyer’s claim under Buyer Protection, the buyer gets the book price and postage back through Stripe.
•
We recover that amount from your payout or Stripe balance where Stripe’s rules allow. This can include reversing a payout already made or deducting it from future payouts. If we can’t recover it, Taled covers the shortfall for the buyer, and we may still ask you to repay it.
•
A successful card chargeback can also be recovered from your payout or balance under Stripe’s rules.
Fees:
•
Seller fee: 10% of the book price for each order, with a minimum of 50c per order. An order means the books one buyer buys from you in one checkout. The fee is deducted from your payout and is not charged on postage. Examples: a $12 book has a $1.20 fee (you receive $10.80 plus postage); a $3 book has the 50c minimum (you receive $2.50 plus postage); three $5 books in one order have a $1.50 fee (you receive $13.50 plus postage).
•
Buyer protection fee: buyers pay a flat $1.49 per order. It is paid by the buyer and is never deducted from your payout.
•
Postage: you set it, the buyer pays it on top, and it is passed to you in full. No Taled fee applies to postage.
•
Founding sellers: the first 50 sellers who finish setting up payouts with Stripe and publish a listing are founding sellers. Once we confirm your founding status by email, you pay no seller fee on orders placed in the 12 months from the date of that email. The buyer protection fee still applies to your sales. Founding status is tied to your account and cannot be transferred. We will email you before it ends.
•
Payment processing costs: Stripe’s processing costs come out of Taled’s fees. You are not charged a separate processing fee.
•
Refunded sales: no seller fee is charged on an order that is cancelled or fully refunded.
•
If you cancel before posting: if you cancel a whole order before posting it, the buyer gets a full refund, including their $1.49 buyer protection fee. If you cancel only part of an order, the buyer is refunded for the books you can’t send and keeps the rest of the order; the buyer protection fee isn’t refunded. Frequent cancellations can lead to limits on your selling account.
•
GST: fees are in Australian dollars and include GST if GST applies.
•
Changes: we will give at least 30 days’ notice of a fee change (in-app or by email). A change does not apply to orders placed before it takes effect. You may need to accept updated Seller Terms before listing again, and you can stop selling at any time.
Current fees and worked examples are on the Fees page. We show what you will receive after fees before you publish a listing.
You must not circumvent fees, including by moving buyers off-platform to pay.
5. Your warranties to Taled and buyers
Each time you list or sell, you warrant that:
1.
you have the right to sell the book and it is in your possession ready to post;
2.
the listing is accurate and not misleading (including title, ISBN/edition where stated, and format);
3.
photos and condition grades fairly represent the real copy the buyer will receive;
4.
the book is not stolen, counterfeit, an unauthorised reproduction, or otherwise prohibited;
5.
you will pack and post to the buyer as described, including any combined-postage offer and stated timeframes;
6.
you will respond reasonably to buyer messages about an active order.
6. Buyer issues and your duties
If a buyer raises a problem:
1.
respond promptly in chat;
2.
follow the seller steps in Buyer Protection and Refunds;
3.
offer a fair fix where you got it wrong (refund, partial refund, or other agreed remedy);
4.
give Taled any tracking, photos, or information we ask for.
If you sell in trade or commerce, ACL remedies may require more than goodwill, so get advice if you are unsure.
7. Prohibited listings and moderation
You must follow our Prohibited and Restricted Listings policy. We may remove listings, cancel orders, reverse payouts where allowed, and suspend accounts for breaches. We may act on reports of stolen goods, fraud, or IP complaints.
8. Intellectual property in your listings
You grant Taled the licence set out in the Terms of Use to use your listing content to operate the Platform. Do not upload photos you do not have rights to use. Cover images of books for the purpose of selling a legitimate second-hand copy are common; do not use the Platform to distribute pirate ebooks or unauthorised digital copies.
9. Indemnity
You indemnify Taled against reasonable losses and costs arising from your listings, sales, postage failures, misleading conduct, prohibited items, or IP breaches, except to the extent caused by Taled’s negligence or wrongdoing.
10. Suspension
We may limit selling privileges or close seller access for repeated “not as described” issues, not posting, scams, or other serious breaches.
11. Changes
We’ll tell you about material changes to these Seller Terms, with at least 30 days’ notice for fee changes. You may need to re-accept before listing again. Standing acceptance continues until then.
12. Law
These Seller Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, the same as our Terms of Use.
